The Many Faces of "Unconscious Bias"

"Unconscious bias", however, cannot be simplified to a simple stereotype attribution. Unconscious perception is complex and follows different patterns. The most common forms of "Unconscious Bias" are:

Anchoring
The first impression leads to the fact that all further actions and behaviors of this person are seen in a - depending on the impression - positive or negative light.

Similarity Bias
We are more sympathetic to people who are similar to us in partial aspects than to those who are different from us.

Confirmation Bias
Unconsciously looking for evidence that confirms our opinion and belief about a person. All evidence that can disprove our opinion is unconsciously ignored.

Stereotyping
Decisions are influenced by a person's membership in a social group (gender, age, etc.).
