Our vision / mission
Our brain has to process vast amounts of information every single second. To cope with this mass, it uses mental shortcuts. Information is processed quickly and unconsciously by our brain relying on learned patterns (e.g. cultural stereotypes) or previous life experiences. Unconscious bias refers to these mental shortcuts. In many cases, this approach by our brain helps us make decisions quickly and efficiently, but it also affects our ability to be objective. Often, therefore, it is important to be aware of precisely these mechanics in order to avoid judging people in particular prematurely and possibly incorrectly.
What does this have to do with me?
Everyone has unconscious biases and this will remain the case. But creating awareness of this and reminding people of the issue again and again is the goal of the project group.
