Expectant mothers may not be employed in the last six weeks before the expected date of birth - unless they expressly consent, in which case this consent may be revoked at any time.
The expectant mother should start her maternity leave at least four weeks before the calculated date of birth. The exact calculation of the last working day can be done in the consultation with HR.
According to §6 of the Maternity Protection Act, mothers may not be employed until 8 weeks after delivery. For mothers after premature or multiple births this period is extended to 12 weeks.
In the case of premature births, this period is additionally extended by the period from the calculated to the actual date of birth.
During the maternity leave the full leave entitlement exists. Ideally, the entire leave entitlement (including that accruing during maternity leave) should be scheduled before taking maternity leave.
Additionally, we have a quiet space on the 1st floor (room 2054) and a parent-children room on the 5th floor (room 5044).

Parental leave without part-time work is an unpaid time-out of max. 3 years from working life for parents who look after and raise their child themselves. The entitlement to parental leave is valid until a child reaches the age of seven years. The child must live in his or her own household.
If parental leave is to begin immediately after the end of the maternity leave period, it must be submitted in writing to LP at least seven weeks before it is taken. Parental leave can be divided into up to three periods. The first period can be applied for directly, the other periods can also be applied for later. The start of parental leave must always start at the same time as the date of birth if parental allowance ('Elterngeld') is applied for at the same time. This is important for the smooth payment of parental allowance. If the child is born on April 5, for example, the parental leave needs to start also on the 5th of the respective month.
Parental leave begins for mothers at the earliest after the maternity protection period, for fathers at the earliest with the birth of the child.
During the parental leave you have no vacation entitlement. However, the leave entitlement is only reduced for each full month. The correction will be made by HR in the Vacation Tool shortly after you apply for parental leave.
During parental leave you are not allowed to work full time. However, part-time employment of 15 to 32 hours per week is permitted (max. 32 hours since 01.09.2021 regulated by law). Under certain circumstances, it may be possible to resume part-time work prematurely during parental leave. However, there must be a need in the department and there must be an open position. Please contact HR to see if this is possible. Part-time employment with another employer is possible, unless LP prohibits this for urgent operational reasons. In addition, the child allowance office must be informed immediately in case of part-time employment.
Further information can be obtained from the Bundesministerium für Familie. Please see one of the videos on the topic "Elterngeld - parental allowance"

As part of the Performance Review, the Personnel Committee (PK for short) ensures transparent, objective and fair employee assessment and remuneration across all areas. In addition, the potential and personnel development measures for employees are discussed and approved individually with the PF.
Within the framework of its regular meetings, the personnel committee ensures in particular quality assurance in personnel decisions. It is also consulted when decisions are made on the introduction or adaptation of personnel-related tools, concepts or measures. Personnel decisions such as probationary period takeovers, expiration of time limits, further developments, promotions, terminations, internalizations, etc. are also discussed.

Working abroad
There are a number of things to be considered in advance for an upcoming business trip abroad, whether it is a short business trip or a longer assignment:
Checklist
- Do you have a sufficiently valid passport?
Please make sure that your passport is sufficiently valid. Many countries require your passport to be valid for at least another six months at the time of your planned departure. A sufficiently valid identity card is sufficient for travel within the EU. - Do I need a visa? What entry formalities do I need to observe?
When travelling on business, you must obtain all information on entering the country and work regulations yourself. Please make sure that you have the appropriate visa for your work abroad. You can find more information under Visa & Formalities. - Is my business trip planned for more than 30 days in a row or have I already spent many days on a business trip in the same country last year and this year?
Work stays are subject to different entry and tax regulations depending on the country, i.e. if you are in a country for a certain number of days for work purposes, this can have tax consequences for the traveller and the company or may require a work permit. If your business trip is planned for more than 30 days in a row or if you frequently go on a business trip to the same country, please contact HR for clarification or further information. - Am I insured if I become ill or have an accident abroad? Do I have all the necessary documents and telephone numbers in my luggage?
If you are going on a business trip abroad or are sent abroad for a longer period of time, you will be insured through the company with the International Health Insurance Barmenia. You are also insured for accidents at work abroad via the statutory accident insurance. You can find all the information, necessary documents and emergency numbers under Insurance. - Did I apply for the A1 certificate of social insurance from HR in time for a business trip?
For business trips, you must apply for an A1 certificate for the respective country in advance of the trip for social insurance reasons. You can find more information under Insurance. - Do I know the current travel and expense policy?

Visa
If you need a visa for your business trip abroad, you can order it via the VisumCentrale website. There you will find everything you need to know about visas. If you order your visa online via VisumCentrale, please enter the customer number that applies to you.
Please make sure that the activity you are going to do abroad is permitted and planned for under the visa you are applying for.
Longer stays abroad as part of a posting:
If you are going abroad as part of a Short Term Assignment, the HR Global Mobility Team will support you in applying for a visa, work and residence permit and other necessary formalities as well as in all organisational matters.
It may be necessary to submit personal data to the immigration authorities in order to apply for a visa.
International Health Insurance
All employees who go abroad on business trips or who are sent abroad for a longer period of time are insured by Barmenia International Health Insurance, a group foreign health insurance policy called World Policy No. 4484, which we have taken out for the Loyalty Partner Group with Barmenia Insurance. It provides insurance cover for medical expenses incurred abroad as a private patient at the doctor's or hospital. These costs are reimbursed up to 100% within the framework of the world policy without any maximum limit. Further information is available at www.weltpolice.com.
This international health insurance distinguishes between
- a travel/stay duration of less than 90 days = short travel insurance and
- a travel/stay of more than 90 days = full cost insurance.
If you are going on a shorter business trip abroad (1 - 90 days), please notify your team assistant of your travel dates and the country of travel in advance so that she can enter you in the HR insurance list. HR reports the total number of days of travel at the end of the year to the health insurance company, which then insures all short-term trips during the year. You will find all the important information for emergencies, benefits and reimbursement in the Short Term Travel Insurance leaflet. Please print it out and add it to your travel documents!
If you are sent abroad for a longer period (90 days or more) or as part of a STA, please contact HR. You will be registered by name with the health insurance company and will receive an insurance certificate for the insurance period. You will find all important information for emergencies, benefits and reimbursement in the leaflet on full cost insurance. Please print it out and add it to your travel documents!
For business trips to the USA (short or long term) you will find additional special information in the GMMI leaflet. GMMI is the contractual partner of Barmenia in the USA. Please print it out and add it to your travel documents!
You will find information on the refunding of benefits in the service information sheet. Please print it out and add it to your travel documents!
If you are insured through Barmenia, you must sign the data protection declaration once for yourself and, if applicable, for co-insured family members/partners in the event of a secondment, and hand it over to personnel for the personnel file.
Here you can find FAQs on international health insurance.

Social Insurance
For business trips within the EU/EEA and Switzerland, an A1 certificate for the respective country must be applied for in due time before the trip for social security reasons.
The reason for this is that, according to the law, employees who are abroad on business trips must carry a social security certificate (the so-called A1 certificate). This certificate confirms the application of German social security law in the country of posting. This certificate must be presented in case of official controls or e.g. industrial accidents abroad.
The A1 certificate must be requested by your team assistant at HR (Ursula Schmidbauer and Sebastian Schiener) at least 2 weeks before the start of the business trip with the following document. HR will apply for the A1 certificate on your behalf and send it to you as soon as we have it.
For business trips to non-European countries (e.g. India, USA), an SV certificate (e.g. DE/IN101) must also be applied for at least 3 weeks before the start of the trip. Please contact your team assistant for this. Your team assistant will apply for the certificate with the following template at HR (Ursula Schmidbauer and Sebastian Schiener).
You can find more information on the website of the GKV-Spitzenverband (the leading association of statutory health insurance companies), where you can also find out about the social security agreements with the respective countries.
Accident Insurance
The Berufsgenossenschaft VBG is the statutory accident insurance whose protection also applies to business trips and work stays/postings abroad. This means that you are also insured for accidents at work and occupational diseases abroad.
A tropical infectious disease caused by a stay abroad can be recognised as an occupational disease under certain circumstances. It is important for insurance claims and also for further medical treatment to have precise documentation of the medical treatment abroad.
Further information can be found at www.vbg.de and in the leaflet on statutory accident insurance when posted abroad.
Here you can find the important emergency numbers as well as our customer number of the respective company.
Travel Expenses Directive
LP's Travel Expense Guidelines also contain all the important information on business trips abroad and how to settle them.
Postings & Policies
Policy
If you are to work abroad as an employee for more than 90 days at a time, you must be officially seconded as part of a Short Term Assignment (STA) in accordance with the AMEX guidelines to ensure compliance with entry, labour and tax regulations. This must not be circumvented by a frequent "fly-in-fly-out".
If you as a manager are planning to send an employee abroad, please contact HR in good time. The application for visas and work permits can take up to 90 days, depending on the country.
You can find an overview of the services provided by a STA here:

Medical advice
All employees who are sent abroad (including European countries) for 3 months or longer must seek advice from our company physician Dr. Luick and undergo the obligatory occupational health screening G35. This also applies to every business trip (regardless of duration) to India and Mexico.
The consultation includes, among other things, the latest information on necessary malaria and vaccination prophylaxis as well as vaccination advice.
Even for shorter business trips abroad, the company doctor recommends the G35 examination in many cases (e.g. India). After Dr. Luick's examination, you will receive a medical certificate for the employer, confirming the result with one of four assessment options:
- no health concerns
- no health concerns under certain conditions
- temporary health concerns
- persistent health concerns
Only after you have presented this certificate to HR (at Ursula Schmidbauer's) and no serious health concerns have been certified, may you travel abroad on behalf of the company.
As soon as you know that you are going abroad for the company, please contact Ursula Schmidbauer at HR. She will announce you to our company doctor Dr Luick. You can arrange the exact date directly with Dr Luick's practice. The appointment should be made at least 4 weeks before departure. The costs for the examination and consultation will be covered by us, provided that it is a business trip or a secondment arranged by us. Please make sure you bring your identity card and vaccination card with you!
Even after returning from a longer stay abroad, a so-called return examination is necessary, which you must have within 8 weeks after the end of your stay abroad.
The contact details of our company doctor Dr. Luick are:

Pregnancy
If you are pregnant, please contact an HR team member at the latest from the 4th month of pregnancy. Even before that, you can always turn to HR for any questions you may have. Your doctor will issue you a medical certificate, which we will use for our records from the 4th month of pregnancy at the latest.
Working during pregnancy
These are the important principles for you during pregnancy:
No overtime
Overtime is not an option for pregnant colleagues. Overtime is defined as working time that exceeds 8 1/2 hours per day or 90 hours in a double week.
No night work
Activities between 8 pm and 6 am are therefore prohibited!
No work on Sundays and holidays
Pregnant colleagues are also prohibited from working on Sundays and public holidays.
Limited support available
Since our support, also called on-call service, is to be considered 100% working time in the legal sense, the weekly working time including support time may not exceed 45 hours. On Sundays and public holidays no support service may be provided at all.
Risk assessment of the workplace
Together with HR, each pregnant colleague conducts a counseling interview. Possible risks at the workplace are also discussed. Usually this is not the case with our office jobs and office workplaces.
You will be informed by your manager in a personal interview in good time, before the end of the first 6 months, whether you have successfully passed the trial period. At the end of the probationary period, each employee will be discussed in the personnel committee.
